Celebrating a Beautiful Life

Life Story

Tyrone Mitchell, affectionately known as “Ty,” was born on July 26, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Thomas and Gertie Mae Mitchell. He grew up surrounded by his brothers and sisters in a close knit family. Of the bunch, Tyrone was known as the wild one, full of personality, always ready to have a good time, and someone who truly knew how to enjoy life. Tyrone was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tony and Reginald Mitchell; and his beloved son, Tywone Mitchell. Tyrone was educated in the St. Louis Public School System. He accepted Christ into his life at an early age and developed a genuine love for God and the church. He was a devoted member of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, where worship and fellowship became an important part of his life. You couldn’t pay Tyrone to miss church. He also had a love for music and especially enjoyed playing the drums, using his gift as another way to serve and praise God. It was through church that Tyrone met the love of his life, Arnita “Nita” Davis, in 1982. What began with a meeting at church blossomed into a love story that would span 44 years. After sharing 22 years of life together, Tyrone and Arnita joined in marriage in 2004, beginning another chapter in a love that had already stood the test of time. Their union was blessed with five children: Shannon, Tynitra, Tyrone Jr., Erica, and Tywone. Together, they raised their family, experienced life’s joys and challenges, and watched the love they began so many years ago continue through their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. For 44 years, Nita remained a constant part of Ty’s journey, the young woman he met at church, the mother of his five children, his partner through life, and ultimately, his wife. Their story was not simply measured by the years they were married, but by the lifetime they built together.

Words of Love

Tributes

To the world he was Tyrone, but to us he was our teacher and a safe harbor. We are deeply grateful for the time we shared and the lessons he left behind. I know how to protect myself. My favorite quote from my dad is, “If anyone is trying to get over, they are stealing by deceit,” or, “Show me where it states in black and white that what you’re saying is true. If it’s not in black and white, it doesn’t mean anything.” Lol. I’m going to miss him saying, “Do I have to make an appointment to talk to my own daughter?” because you be too busy, Ms. Hollywood. Dad, I may not be able to make that appointment anymore, but I’ll spend the rest of my life carrying your words, your lessons, and your love with me. You will always be my safe harbor, and no matter how much time passes, I will forever be your daughter. I love you, Dad, and I’m going to miss you more than words could ever say.

My dad was awesome! He was the kind of father that you can truly count on. Whenever any of us needed him he was there. He might have been late but it was never a no it was always a yes. He also worked my nerves lol lord did he know how to push my buttons lol but he also knew how to make it up to me. It was never a dull moment with him. My dad was an all around kind of man. He was funny. That’s who I get my sense of humor from. He can fix a car, your kitchen sink or maybe even put up kitchen cabinets all while putting something on the grill. Lord they don’t make them like that anymore. He was also a walking dictionary he knew everything about everything. I know that sounds cliche but he truly did he was very educated. My father was also a family man he loved us and he loved his grandchildren very much. I wish they had more time with him. My dad will truly be missed. From me his daughter Ty Thomas his grandson and Norah his granddaughter(better known as his angel). We love you dad and you will forever be missed. I’m definitely going to miss those birthday voicemails. You was one of a few people who called me every June 6th and sang me a birthday song. Our annual Christmas PJ party will not be the same without you.No more backyard bbq when you come walking up on the back of those shoes.lolWow this can’t be real.love you dad Rest In Heaven P.S I have a lot more to say but I don’t want to take up the whole obituary

I will always remember how he told me son be your own boss it’s too much money out here you can be rich in 6 months. That moment showed me his concern and heart will stay with me forever. Thank you for your love and support during all the difficult times. Your kindness honors the memory of Tyrone Mitchell sr and comforts our family.

To My Beloved Husband, Tyrone, for 44 years, it was us. 22 years as husband and wife, but long before we said “I do,” you already had my heart. We built a life together filled with love, laughter, memories, good times, hard times, and everything in between. How do I say goodbye to someone who has been such a big part of my life for so long? The truth is, I don't know how. Forty years sounds like a long time, but today, it doesn't feel nearly long enough. I will miss your voice, your presence, our conversations, our laughter, and simply knowing you were there. There will be so many moments when I'll wish I could turn to you one more time. Thank you for forty years of us. Thank you for the memories, the love we shared, and for twenty years of being my husband. A lifetime of memories will never replace having you here, but I will carry them and you in my heart for the rest of my life. You will forever be Tyrone to the world, but to me, you'll always be my Fat Rat. If love alone could have kept you here, you would have stayed forever. I loved you then. I love you now. And I will love you always.
